WALL OF FIRE makes his second UK start of the year at Chester this afternoon in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes.

I was delighted with his close second in the Further Flight Stakes at Nottingham on his return from Dubai, as he showed great tenacity to fight back when headed and, while it was very frustrating to see him beaten, I was pleased with how he coped with the race.

Last year he needed to come through beaten horses to win, but at Nottingham he showed he's no longer reliant on those tactics and he had to go without cover in a race run at an uneven tempo, which he coped with admirably. He was also first to commit for home, which wasn't ideal in retrospect.

The main priority this year is to get him qualified for the Melbourne Cup, and this race fits the bill in that regard. He's a strong stayer and showed he was comfortable on quicker ground at Nottingham, so underfoot conditions shouldn't be a problem.
